Naevus Flammeus - photographic portraits by Linda Hansen

Linda Hansen
Here you will find two of Linda Hansen's series of photographic works: Naevus Flammeus and Out of Season.

Naevus Flammeus
Naevus flammeus is the medical term for a congenital developmental disorder of the skin's tiny blood vessels.

NaevusFlammeus appears as red patches of skin in approximately 0.3 percent of all newborns. Speculation and ideas of the mole are many, and marks still remains an object of fascination and mystery.

In this exhibition Linda Hansen shows a series of portraits of people with nevus flammeus.

Linda Hansen's works grab hold of what, we immediately see. Her photographs maintains us in the subject, that our gaze, norms and consciousness would rather dodge, in a way that we will have to take a stand. In the series nevus flammeus she portrays a number of people with birthmarks. Her portraits examine and challenge the glance, we meet people with.

Moles may have different shape and size from a few millimeters to cover large skin areas. The tags can occur all over the body, but most visible on the face or neck. A mole does not go away with age. Typically, it becomes progressively more significant.

Linda Hansen breaks with established visual standards when she forces us not to look away. Is it beautiful, uncomfortable, strange, wonderful, life-affirming or repulsive?

Linda Hansen’s photographic work is often based on minorities, experience of individuality and focused on gaze role in the photograph.

A beautiful 102 pages photo book is available for the exhibition. Price 40,- €

The exhibition is supported by: FRIMODT-HEINEKE FOND and Grosserer L. F. Foghts Fond

The whole series has been acquired by the National Museum of Photography, The Royal Library

Out of Season
The 15 artworks in the series Out of Season are made in close collaboration between Linda Hansen (photography) and Halfdan Trolle  (watercolor)

Out of Season is composed of three small series of five artworks. They all show Danish plants in a fagile, but at the same time powerful expression.

JOHANNES LARSEN
The plants in the Johannes Larsen series are collected in the garden of Johannes Larsen Museum in Kerteminde, Denmark. The artists have chosen to work with the color scales found in some of Johannes Larsen's pictures. With the pictures, artists want to work within the tension between the poetical and naturalist depiction that John Larsen mastered.

ISBRYDER (ICEBREAKER)

"Winter is not a season, it's an occupation." - Sinclair Lewis

ISBRYDER is an exploration and interpretation of the finest existences - in the least forgiving environments. In the series, the artists have collaborated to portray plants left behind in the ice; First through photography by Linda Hansen, and then in the watercolor of Halfdan Trolle. We see them. Stand as forgotten guides in the white sense. ISBRYDER is thus a portrait series of nature's deconstruction. About what later blooms up again for a new season. The pictures talk about the last one left when everything else has been removed - both as expression and form.

PHANTOMS
Remembrance is a weathered combination of what we see and what we feel. Some memories are imaginative and clear, others interwoven in the mind's cobweb. The fantasies are based on this duality. The series is thematically related to I S B R Y D E R, but the artists have chosen to reconstruct parts of the plant subjects instead of deconstructing. The portrayals are a visual impression in our memory. The title and the stylistic choices therefore refer both to the reconstructions and the plant subjects as an echo of a forgotten time.
