Installation view from the show Material Spirit
Miriam Nielsen
Miriam Nielsen

Miriam Nielsen works within the field of semi-abstract, conceptual photography creating montages, in which she combine elements from urban and rural environments.

Miriam uses her photographs as raw-material from which she construct new images. Through emphasizing the materiality, the tones and the structure of the image, a sense of rhythm and movement between the different layers emerge.

"Thus it is not the representative picture as such that captures me, but the material properties and potential of the photograph to create fictional spaces. With these works I hope to extend the fleeting moment we usually associate with a photograph, into different realities" Miriam Nielsen explains.

Miriam Nielsen is a visual artist and curator working with photography, video, sound, publications and installation.

She is educated from from the Danish Photographic Art School, Fatamorgana, and holds an MA in Visual Anthropology from the University of Copenhagen and a BA from Soas, University of London.
